Description: Any other info about this painting would be welcome since I am not an art expert, so please feel free to comment. See back photo, this George Falk oil on canvas appears to have been possibly signed and owned by Commodore Cornelius Vanderbilt, at one time the richest man in America, grandfather of George Vanderbilt, owner of the largest house in America. This would possibly place the painting before 1877 if this truly was owned by the Vanderbilts. The signature does appear to resemble later year autographs of Cornelius, it does not resemble earlier, during his younger years. The signature or painting has not been authenticated by any expert, but see photos. I'm not sure if the richest man in America would sign his own paintings but it looks very similar to online pics of autographs. Since this is local pickup, I would be happy to meet near Pittsburgh with your art expert to authenticate if desired. Wood frame guilded in (what appears to be gold colored paint), heavy damage to the frame guild (gold colored, could probably be repaired but I am no expert how to repair). Measures approx 19x23". From the Marshall Fields Galleries. Bubble in paint in top right quadrant.
