Description: Gorgeous Baby "Soft & Cuddly" Like a real Baby! ♥Hard to find, 12" long, antique printed cloth, circa 1938, "SWEETS", baby doll, designed by celebrated illustrator, Maud Tousey Fangel,* ("America's Foremost Baby Painter", July, 1937, "Toys and Novelties" advertisement) see examples of her drawings in last photos~not included in this listing) and produced by Georgene Averill Mfg. Co. This rare and beautiful baby doll has a lovable, printed cloth face with life-like detail with sweet features including curly blonde printed hair, ("curl in the middle of her forehead") large brown eyes, eyelashes and smiling mouth. Signed: M.T.F. cprt., she wears a darling antique cotton dress and matching baby slip (needs bonnet). She has a soft-stuffed, cloth body with shaped feet and mitt-type hands as described on pages 27-28, "Cloth Dolls"-Judd as well as on pages 71, "Doll Values", 8th edition-DeFoe & Stover and page 41, described on page 39, 16th edition Blue Book-Foulke and featured on page 4, (introduction) 15th Blue Book of Doll Values-Foulke. Very rare, "Peggy Ann'", and other sister dolls are NOT included and listed separately. She is in generally good overall condition with clear features, no odors, no rips, tears or holes, no repairs and from a smoke free home, some slight water stains and overall wear to the washable covering (oilcloth covering was used on some dolls and others were left with only the cloth finish) on her chubby body which does not distract. Other MTF cloth baby dolls and original lithographed doll faces shown in group photos are not included and will each be listed separately. Please note: nearly all of our items are antique or vintage (usually with some signs of wear due to usage and previous storage). We do our very best to describe and photograph them for you and do not repair, restring, repaint or enhance them in any way as most collectors prefer to find them in their original state. Often these dolls were given to newborn babies and discarded when they became tattered. They were advertised in the May, 1936 issue, of "Toys and Novelties" as ►"washable and waterproof". Her big cloth sisters & brothers, "SNOOKS", also pictured, and the MTF framed illustrations shown are not included and will be listed separately. *Many of MTF drawings were cover designs for magazines such as "Harper's Bazaar". She also made the first set of Dionne Quintuplet paper dolls.
