Author Biography Alan Gill is the author of "Orphans of the Empire", which tells the compelling story of the thousands of men and women who came to Australia as child migrants and so-called orphans from the United Kingdom. He is a journalist of some 40 years standing, for 17 years being the religious writer for the "Sydney Morning Herald". In 1985 he was awarded a Walkley Award and in 1995 he was made a member of the Order of Australia for Services to the media.
