Unmounted and unframed, the condition of the image is excellent and the sheet is very good with some foxing from age. See scans/photos for condition. Joseph Fisher (1795-1890) was an engraver, etcher, intaglio-printer, & print-publisher, who worked in Oxford. Published by Bell and Daldy, 186 Fleet Street, London, 1866. Raphael was one of the finest draftsmen in the history of Western art, and used drawings extensively to plan his compositions. In later works painted by the workshop, the drawings are often painfully more attractive than the paintings. Most Raphael drawings are rather precise—even initial sketches with naked outline figures are carefully drawn, and later working drawings often have a high degree of finish. Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino (1483 –1520), now generally known in English as RAPHAEL and in 1866 when this etching was printed as RAFFAELLE, was an Italian painter and architect of the High Renaissance. His work is admired for its clarity of form, ease of composition, and visual achievement of the Neoplatonic ideal of human grandeur. Together with Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo, he forms the traditional trinity of great masters of that period. High Renaissance, fine art, drawing, Master, classical.
