Description: RADIO SHACK FM wireless microphone system 32-1221B; 49.830 MHz. Purchased approximately 2002. Very little use, as it did not serve my purposes well. Still in original packaging, including owner's manual. Was stored without batteries in transmitter pack, so battery contacts are in pristine condition. Tested just this evening before posting, and all functions are operating correctly. Manual says to position microphone 3-6" from mouth, and I would say that this requirement is pretty absolute. At greater distances, the audio level will be low and the signal will be noisy, unless the speaker/singer's voice is strong. For a screaming rock-and-roller, it should work excellently! But for a soft-spoken person, this mic probably will not work well unless held by hand directly in front of the mouth. I'm a bit of an electronics technician, and I found no level control to adjust inside the transmitter pack. With the mic clipped to my shirt just under my chin, my wife was able to raise the volume level on our home stereo to an uncomfortably high level, but with noticeable noise on the signal (perhaps not enough to be objectionable to many). Please don't expect this unit to perform like a $1,000 professional wireless mic system. I should add that I only ever used the line-level output. Perhaps the mic-level output is strong enough to drive a device with a mic-level input better than the line-level worked for me. This mic could work well for computer video/audio recording in podcast style, as long as the speaker's voice is reasonably strong and doesn't tail off often, and as long as the mic can be clipped to the speaker's clothing near the mouth. The sound quality is better than most built-in computer mics, but falls short of professional level. The windscreen seems to be attached with a light adhesive, so I don't think it's intended to be removable; the manual says nothing either way. The manual says the mic covers a distance of "up to 200 feet." I suggest not expecting solid, reliable pickup at much more than 25 or 30 feet. Battery life in the microphone pack (2 AA batteries, NOT INCLUDED) is said to be "Approximately 50 hours with alkaline batteries." Receiver is dual-powered: 110v or 12vdc. No 12v power supply is included; just a standard DC power jack on the rear panel. Receiver outputs are line level (RCA phono jack) and mic level (1/4" microphone jack), on the rear panel. These outputs can be used simultaneously to feed separate recording and amplifying devices, as long as at least one of them can accept a mic-level input, (which is much lower than line-level). Receiver front-panel controls are a power pushbutton and a rotary output level adjustment. Transmitter controls are a 3 position switch (off/standby/talk) and a momentary switch to mute the mic. See the final photo for detailed specs as printed in the manual. I don't do a lot of selling on eBay, so positive feedback on each transaction is important to me. So you can buy with confidence that the item will be as described. Note, though, that returns are not accepted, so be sure that what I've taken the trouble to describe above is acceptable to you.
