Description: Only issued in 1887 the Golden Jubilee Shilling coin. Issued by the Royal Mint to mark 50 years of Queen Victoria's reign. Sterling Silver antique coin. In 1887, for ONE YEAR ONLY, the ancient sterling silver shilling coin was issued with a shield design. The shilling was worth 12 old pennies or two sixpence coins. Struck by the Royal Mint at the Tower of London, responsible for striking English coins since 896AD, more than 1,100 years. In excellent condition, graded as Extra Fine (EF), this is a highly collectible coin. The last shilling coin was issued in 1970 as a Proof only for collectors. The shilling ceased to be legal tender at the end of 1990. Perfect as gift for a coin collector or anyone with an interest in British history. Queen Victoria went on the reign for 14 more years after this special edition of the shilling coin was taken out of production.
