Quality Jim Fregosi 42-2511 USA 1970's Spalding baseball glove RH Bellows Web

Description: Here is a decent vintage 1971 - 1972 made in USA Jim Fregosi Spalding Model 42-235 baseball glove for a Right-Hand thrower and thus fits on the left hand. The mitt was made in the USA and is adult sized measuring 12" long through the pocket. The glove was only made in this model number in 1971 and 1972 (and maybe 1973). This glove has 1 dot stamped on the outside thumb, which tells me it was a 1971 model. In 1971 this glove was the 4th most expensive glove in the Spalding catalog, selling for $31.00 when top line glove sold for $55, so it was a quality glove. The glove has the Double Action Web which is the Spalding version of the Rawlings Bellows Web. Rawlings was making the gloves for Spalding at this time. Stamped on the front of the glove is Double Action Web, Form Pocket, Jim Fregosi (facsimile signature) Professional Model, E-Z Flex, 42-2511, Spalding and Made In U.S.A. On the back is stamped Patent Applied For, Pat. No. 2,995,757, 100% Nylon Stitched, Xtender Control Back, and has 1 dot on the thumb, meaning this was a 1971 model. There is a blue/red/white original Spalding patch sewn on the back that is readable but shows wear. There is a faint name in red marker on the back of the middle finger and also a smaller faint red name at the bottom of the pinky finger in marker. The stamping on the front and back is all readable. Interior leather is very soft and smooth with some light chafing on the soft bottom of the heel (see pics). The lacing appears original and intact with wear here and there. The leather piping is soft with light wear. The thumb loop is functional and useable and there and the glove was made without a pinky loop. The glove feels good on the hand. Jim Fregosi played in the majors 18 years from 1961-1978. He's mainly remembered as a Los Angeles or California Angel, playing with the Angels from 1961-1971 as an infielder, mainly a shortstop. He also played with the New York Mets from 1972-1973, the Texas Rangers from 1973-1977 and the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1977-1978. He was a 6 time All-Star and won the AL Gold Glove award as a shortstop. He was a right handed thrower and hitter.
