Dolomite rock was first described in 1791 by the French naturalist and geologist Déodat de Dolomieu, after whom it is named. These dolomite pieces are embedded with steaks of pyrite. Though a relatively soft rock (at only 4.0 on the Mohs scale) they do tumble and polish satisfactorily and make for an unusual item within a collection. Average piece size: approx. 5cm sq. Hardness rating: 4.0 (Mohs). Please note that these are rough rocks and are unpolished and unfaceted, so allow for natural imperfections.
