Description: Extremely rare vintage contractor model / mock up of the Pye Wacket Flying Saucer Missile. Pye Wacket was the code name for a flying saucer-shaped air-to-air missile developed by the US Air Force 1957-1961. A study of newly declassified sources reveals a more complex history... and the ultimate intention to develop Pye Wacket into a manned anti-satellite spacecraft design... Not sure if this was a desk model or a development concept model but it is original and vintage and was acquired with a small collection of vintage metal aircraft contractor desk models. I am leaning towards concept model because there is no hole or obvious place to attache it to a stand and the desk models typically have some sort of stand. This is probably the coolest weapon ever developed by the US Air Force from a design point of view. Lots of information about the program and development can be found online searching Pye Wacket. Model shows wear from handling especially the Air Force decal on the black side. Certainly would be the crown jewel of any missile model collection.
