Description: Unique versions of two of Christianity’s most prominent icons, “Christ Pantocrator” and “Our Lady of Kazan.” Icons are made of printed pictures attached to white paper covering possibly wood or similar solid material. Christ Pantocrator (Greek, translated as "Almighty" or "all-powerful") is one of Christianity’s earliest depictions of Christ. In this iconography, Christ holds the New Testament in his left hand and makes a sign of blessing or teaching with his right hand. As a result, this iconographic representation of Christ is commonly referred to as Christ the Teacher. Our Lady of Kazan, also known as the Mother of God of Kazan, is one of the most prominent icons in the Russian Orthodox Church. The icon represents the Blessed Virgin Mary as the protector and patroness of the city of Kazan (fifth largest city in Russia and capital of Tatarstan) and the Holy Protectress of Russia. Both icons are approximately 4 13/16" x 5 3/4“. Icons appear to be in good to very good used condition with signs of wear, such as scratches, scrapes, indentations, nicks, and abrasions. The Christ Pantocrator icon appears to be in better condition than the Our Lady of Kazan icon. Both icons have wear at the corners. There is a stain on the Our Lady of Kazan icon which begins in the top margin and progresses down the front of the picture. In addition, there seems to be a slight raised area under the picture and/or paper near the top left corner of the Our Lady of Kazan icon, although this is difficult to see in the photos. There are also more stray marks on the back of the Our Lady of Kazan icon than on the Christ Pantocrator icon. Estate sale find. Please see photos, as they constitute part of the description.
