A bit about this pipe ~ Wengholt was a second brand from Preben Holm ~ Preben Holm spent his storied career rebelling against machine turned pipe shapes and methods. He is said by many to be the father of the Danish Freehand. However his beginnings in the world of pipe smoking were much more traditional. At the age of 14 the young Holms was put in charge of tobacco blend imports and pipe repairs while working in his fathers warehouse in Copenhagen. He turned his first pipes in the warehouse basement in 1963. The young Holms always payed the greatest attention to the quality and uniqueness of his craft. Focusing namely on the briar grain patterns in his early work. Holms had began to stand out in the trade by the mid 1960s and in 1971 a meeting with Lane Limited, one of the United States top importers lead to the famed Ben Wade freehand line. After his premature passing 1989 Preben Holms works has become highly sough after by the most discerning of collectors, with the understanding that many can follow but there was only one, the original Preben Holm.
