Description: This is a great example of a piece of Native American beadwork being saved and re-worked into another piece. The beadwork on this purse is an old cuff. The purse is approximately 9" wide at the top and 16" from the top to end of the fringe. This purse has wonderful old, soft colors. The beadwork is in extremely good condition and it tight. I believe the beadwork is sinew sewn. In the lower right corner, there are a couple of very short rows of beadwork missing - see photo. Because the sinew is put down in this area, I think this gap is very old. The beads are size13 or 14's, small. The background color has a touch more green than my computer would pick up - it is a very pretty shade of soft turquoise. The elk body is greasy yellow. The veins of the leaf and antlers have some faceted beads. The purse has been fashioned from hand tanned elk hide. It is not lined inside. There are two very nice elk "whistlers" attached to the purse. Please look at all of the photos carefully as these are part of the description. I can send more photos of specific elements. NOTE: A kind ebay seller told me this can't be an elk dreamer item as it is a piece of Plateau beadwork and the elk dreamer society didn't exist outside of the Plains. All Items are sold "as is".
