To learn more about us please click on our profile ON DEMAND WE ISSUE A CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY (money-back-guarantee) According to the authentic old legend on verso of each piece we are dealing with two miniature portraits of 7-year-old Heloïse Martin (1809-1886) - daughter of banker Didier Martin; in the early 1820s, she married Theodore-Casimir Delamarre de Monchaux (1797-1870), son of another well-known French banker and later a very wealthy banker and politician himself (see our last photograph) and her 8-year-old brother Prosper Martin (1808-1900). Clearly signed (girl's portrait) "Cior p.(inxit)", these charming miniatures are other works of well-known French miniaturist Pierre-Charles Cior in our possession. Pierre Charles Cior (1769 Paris - ca. 1840 Paris) was a pupil of Bazil. At the Salon of 1796 he exhibited a frame containing several miniatures, and, in 1799, two other miniatures. It was thirty two years later in 1831 that Cior again participated at the Salon, making his final reappearance in 1838. The artist travelled a lot throughout his career. The details of his itineraries are unknown, yet it is known that he was appointed a Painter in Miniature to the King of Spain, and that he also worked quite a lot at the Russian Court, where, among others, he did the portraits of the Emperor Paul I of Russia and his wife, of Prince Kourakin and Princess Poniatowska. He also painted Prince Eszterhazy, the Queen of Holland, the Duke of Luxemburg, Louis XVIII and numerous other personalities. Provenance: private collection.
