We scanned both sides of each photo so we can read the back info from the screen. There will be a lot of names you don't know so show them to family members and friends on the screen or TV and have them help. We ran a video camera at the same time to capture comments while the photo showed. Scanning takes time, mostly because you have to clean the glass every time dust sticks and causes vertical streaks on the image. We purchased a used Kodak PS50 on eBay that has no glass, for $600 to do it. Now we'll sell it. We suggest scanning the .tif format at 400 dpi. The other systems out there require you to keep the images in the cloud or a proprietary database from which you may not recover them in the future.
