Description: EXTRA INFOPHOTO LEAD PIG INGOT IN ST NICHOLAS CHURCH THIS LEAD PIG INGOT WAS CAST FROM THE LEAD ROOF THE LEAD OF STAINED GLASS WINDOWS AND OTHER FIXTURES OF THE KENILWORTH ABBEY WHEN IT WAS DISSOLVED BY HENRY VIII IN 1538. HENRY OBVIOUSLY WANTED EVERYTHING OF VALUE FROM THE ABBEYS AND MONASTERIES THAT HE DESTROYED. THE LEAD WAS CAST INTO AN EARTH MOULD PROBABLY STRAIGHT IN TO THE GROUND. THIS INGOT SOMEHOW GOT LEFT BEHIND ON SITE AMONGST ALL THE DESTRUCTION AND WAS DISCOVERED BY WORKMEN THREE HUNDRED YEARS LATER IN 1855. THE INGOT IS STAMPED WITH THE SEAL OF HENRY VIII.
