Very good photo album with rubbing and worn corners with near fine photographs.A photo album kept by a family of British expatriates while living in India and what is now Pakistan from 1930 until 1950. The family lived on a large estate and bred horses, dogs, and other small animals during the years they spent in India. The horses were the prize possessions of the home with numerous photos showing the beautiful animals owned by the family, including Seagull a 15 year old white horse, George, and Koppa, who can be seen throughout the album performing jumps. A handful of the photographs have been handcolored by the young woman who kept the album and show the Taj Mahal, as well as locals helping retrieve a car from a ferry. Many of the photos show the family hiking around the mountains of India and boating on its many rivers. A group of 10 laid in photographs show a number of men in uniform speaking to a group with images of planes on an easel and the American flag behind them. It is probable they were part of the American Air Force showing off new technology to the upper class British in India to garner support for projects in World War II. In the album a few military men are mentioned and seem being friends of the family including a Major Kilroy, who is seen horseback riding, as well as a Major Trafford. It also appears from a photo captioned "Daddy" of a man on a horse in a military uniform that the head of the household was part of the British military.A look into the lives of the British upper class in India over two decades through better than average amateur photography.
