Description: MAURICE DE VLAMINCK (1876–1958) was a French painter. He was born in Rue Pierre Lescot in Paris. He started learning art in 1893 where he studied with Henri Rigalon. In 1894, he married while serving in the army. In 1899, Vlaminck met André Derain whom became his lifelong friend. By 1900, Vlaminck had finished his service and Derain and he rented a studio together. In 1902 and 1903 he wrote a few mildly pornographic novels and Derain illustrated them. In 1911, Vlaminck went to London and painted. In 1913, he was back with Derain. He married a second time while in Rueil-la-Gadelière. Vlaminck disliked Cubism and blamed Picasso for dragging French art down. In 1942, he wrote a periodical Comoedia which blasted Picasso and Cubism. He died in 1958 in Rueil-la-Gadeliére.
