Description: CHAIM SOUTINE (1893–1943) was born Chaïm -Iche Solomonovich Sutin, in Smalvichy in the Minsk Govemorate of the Russian Empire (today it is Belarus). He was Jewish by descend and the tenth of eleven children born to his parents Zalman Sutin and Sarah Sutina. From 1910 to 1913 he studied in Vilnius at a small art academy. In 1913, with his friends Pinchus Kremegne and Michel Kikoine, he emigrated to Paris, where he studied at the École des Beaux-Arts under Fernand Cormon. He soon developed a highly personal vision and painting technique. Having been known as a Russian painter who made a major contribution to the expressionist movement (while living in Paris). He was inspired by classic painting in the European tradition, exemplified by the works of Rembrandt, Chardin, and Courbet. Soutine developed an Individual style more concerned with shape, color and texture over representation. This helped bridge between the more traditional approaches and the developing Abstract Expressionism. Original Edition Lithograph on vélin d’Arches paper, 1966. Paper Size: 20 x 26 inches.
