Description: DescriptionNew Born in Paris in 1896, Paul Jacoulet came to Japan at the age of three and spent most of his life there. Jacoulet was a unique painter and printmaker. In the early Showa period, Jacoulet established his own printmaking laboratory and began producing traditional woodblock prints. As with the ukiyo-e prints of the Edo period, he worked with carvers and printers to produce approximately 170 woodblock prints in vivid colors. After World War II, his gorgeous woodblock prints attracted the attention of many American military personnel stationed in Japan, including General MacArthur of the GHQ, and retrospectives were held in various locations in Japan and the United States. This book is the first full-color definitive collection of Jacoulet's woodblock prints, marking the 60th anniversary of his death. Bilingual Japanese/English edition.
