Description: Paredon Records was founded in 1970 by leftist folk performer Barbara Dane and her husband, folk music scholar and member of the old left, Irwin Silber, and released nearly fifty albums until it's demise in the mid-1980s. The content of the Paredon releases was widely international in scope, and was described as "Songs, music, poetry, speeches, documents of class struggle, national liberation, women's emancipation and democratic rights." The format of each recording was quite similar to that of Folkways Records, with a rather plain record jacket, over which was glued the appropriate jacket information, as well as an extensive pamphlet of liner notes included with each album. Sample titles included "FTA! SONGS OF THE GI RESISTANCE" and "I HATE THE CAPITALIST SYSTEM." As with Folkways, the label lives on under the Smithsonian-Folkways brand.
