Description: As one of the army officers leading a coup d'etat in 1954, Stroessner was soon installed as President after an election in which was the only candidate. He suspended most legal rights and ruled in a cruel and brutal manner for 35 years—until he, in turn, was overthrown by a coup and fled to Brazil, where he died at age 93 in 2006. He deemed his harsh policies necessary to stabilize a nation that had seen 22 presidents in 27 years. The Stroessner government built the largest hydroelectric power plant in the world at the Itaipu Dam in the 1970s. Stroessner ordered this coin to be minted to promote his Colorado Party's motto, "Paz y Justicia." It appears to be uncirculated.
