Description: Rare pair of Jane & Gordon Martz Large Incised Mid Century Modern 1960's table lamps. Cylindrical base with wood neck. These MCM lamps have the original wiring, work as they should and are in excellent vintage condition. Overall height to the bottom of the socket is 21.25 inches and the widest width is 7 inches. One shade shows some damage and paint marks, the other had the wooden part on of the shade come off (see photo). The lamps have original wiring and work perfectly. Felt is on the bottom to protect scratching. These are rare and highly sought after. Similar Jane & Gordon Martz table lamps have been getting bid up to $19,000.00 a pair at recent auctions in Piasa, France. I have never seen a pair quite like these available for sale anywhere. Jane & Gordon Martz met as students at the New York State College of Ceramics in Alfred, New York. In 1951 they joined Marshall Studios in Veedersberg, Indiana, where, for 38 years, they designed and produced a wide variety of functional ceramic housewares including stoneware lamps, dishes, and tiles. The Martzes' work has been recognized by MoMA in New York City where some of it is included in the permanent collection. Marshall Studios closed its doors in 1989.
