Description: Beautiful pair of mid 18th century soft-paste porcelain musician figurines by Derby Porcelain Works. c. 1770-82. Set features a young woman playing the lute and a young man playing the cello, both sitting on a rococo scrolled base with gilt and green accents. Each are hand-painted in rich enamels and gilt, period clothing, wearing black hats. Bases are painted with the Derby Porcelain Works mark used between 1770-82. . Each measures approx 5" high x 3" long x 2 3/4" deep. The pair is in overall Excellent antique condition, note a professional repair to the cello's bow, what appear to be areas of overpaint on the hands, most likely from a repair, as well as minor paint loss, consistent with figurines of this age, please see all photos.
