Description: PABLO PICASSO Pour Roby (“L'age du Soleil”) Etching on Paper, C. 1950ITEM DESCRIPTION This is an original print from a copper plate by legendary artist Pablo Picasso. The print is titled and signed ‘Pour Roby. Picasso’ as part of the plate and, of course, is backwards in the print. The original copper plate was a gift that the artist made to his friend Robert J. Godet (Roby) so that he could make prints whenever he needed money. In simple outline style, this elegant print is an excellent example of Picasso’s outstanding abilities as an abstract artist. The print is framed with a brown mat and a silver aluminum frame. The greatest painter and most innovative sculptor of the twentieth century, Pablo Picasso was also its foremost printmaker. His graphic oeuvre spans more than seven decades, from 1899 to 1972. His published prints total approximately 2000 different images pulled from metal, stone, wood, linoleum and celluloid. His unpublished prints, perhaps 200 more, have yet to be exactly counted. Picasso’s prints demonstrate his intuitive and characteristic ability to recognize and exploit the possibilities inherent in any medium in which he chose to work I am the original owner of this great piece of art.
