Oxford Illustrated Dickens: Complete 21 Volume Books Set Custom Leather Binding

Description: THIS IS A STUNNING 21 volume set of CHARLES DICKEN'S work, collected for a private library in England and professionally bound in leather in the early 1980's. Fourteen volumes were published between 1947-1979; six in 1982, and one in 1987. The volumes acquired in the 1980s do not appear to have been read, possibly acquired to complete the collection. The early volumes were likely read. 19 volumes were printed in Great Britain; two volumes (Great Expectations and Master Humphrey’s Clock) were printed in the US. Each book was professionally hand-bound in brown leather with gold tooled titles on the spine, with Italian book cloth on the boards and slip cases. The end pages and head bands were hand marbled by the same book binder. The condition is Very Good. There are some defects due to age and use in the older books including spotting on the title pages and some puckering of some pages. As shown in the pictures- there seem to be some grease spots on the leather spines on several books and a couple of smudges on the slip cases. 1. A Tale of Two Cities 1948 2.
