Description: My parents bought these incredible 1887 andiron owls at an auction in Cape Cod in the 1970s. They were part of the fireplace in the Catskills till a few years ago when we sold the house. I have amazing childhood memories of watching the flames shining through the glass eyes and brought the owls back to San Francisco, despite not having a fireplace. I believe that 1887 was the first year that the Howes Foundry in Boston made these andiron owls. With the exception of part of a rear bracket (see photos) that needed a little soldering prior to that ‘70s auction, these andirons, including the yellow glass eyes, are in mint condition.
