Description: Our Young Folks, An Illlustrated Magazine For Boys and Girls, Vol III, Boston: Ticknor & Fields, 1867. 12 monthly issues bound in Full Morocco leather. Includes a title page and table of contents for the entire volume. Wonderful full plate illustrations by John Tenniel, Winslow Homer and many other artists of the day. Many half-page and smaller illustrations too. One plate is in color (chromolithograph). Authors include Harriet Beecher Stowe, James Russell Lowell, H. W. Longfellow. Contents include stories; poetry; articles about archery, magic, baseball, cricket, deer hunting, swimming and winter sports; musical scores; and more. IV, 768 pp. Each issue includes a frontispiece except January, whose frontispiece engraving of author Mayne Reid is bound facing the Volume III title page, instead. January's first leaf of text is detached but present and tucks in so tightly that you might never know. Overall the book is tightly bound. A few early pages have liberal foxing and some pages are darkened. Otherwise the condition of this book is very good, with only occasional foxing and spotting. A few pencil signatures by our esteemed original owner, Master Paterson. Rare Full Green Morocco leather with gilt decoration on front, back and spine. A bit of minor staining and wear to cover but still super handsome. Marbled endpapers. Looks great on display and super fun to peruse. A luxurious and beautiful book offering a rich trove of 19th Century children's entertainment and instruction.
