Description: Original ww1 german m16 helmet, great condition for its age and use. Very interesting helmet, has an upside down cross painted on the rear of the helmet pictured, this was painted on during wartime and is a very interesting addition to the helmet. Next is the chinstrap, looks to be an equipment strap cut and fit through the original strap mounts, most likely for some kind of emergency strap. Helmet was looked at and said to possibly be from a german freikorps volunteer group, or volkssturm group. Painting was said to be for some kind of higher rank or group leader to identify rank from the rear. No original liner, helmet was purchased from an estate of the original owner/bringback so can be 100% guaranteed authentic as is. Very interesting piece of ww1 german history.
