The Christian and Democratic Union was a Czechoslovak center-right coalition. The leader of the coalition was Josef Bartoncík until September 1990, and Josef Lux from September 1990 to April 1992.The party originally had great political ambitions, but surprisingly won only 8.42% of the votes in the 1990 elections.The people participated in the first democratic elections as part of the electoral coalition of the Christian and Democratic Union and Czechoslovakia's People's Party, and the main election slogan was "Freedom instead of socialism."The current chairman of the party is Marek Vyborny from 2024.At the party congress in 2019, the party was renamed from the Christian and Democratic Union - People's Party of Czechoslovakia to the abbreviation KDU-CSL, which has been the only official name since then.KDU-CSL is a centrist conservative party based on Christian values and principles.The party says about itself that "the Ten Commandments, the gospel message of love for others and Christian social teaching" are the starting points of their political actions.The party does not represent any church or religious society.
