Membership in the Union of Czechoslovak Visual Artists or registration in the Fund was a condition for the artist to be able to sell his works or apply for public contracts. The Czech Fine Arts Fund was established as a national "non-state social organization" on the basis of copyright law no. 115 of December 22, 1953 and replaced the former syndicates of artists.Except for a short period in the second half of the 1960s, the fund was indirectly controlled by members of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia (Wiki).
