Founded in 1855 by the Péreire brothers under the name Compagnie Générale Maritime, it was charged by the State with ensuring the transport of mail to North America and took its final name in 1861. In 1883, four large-scale liners speed are put into service for Cruises. But the “Transat” is not content with operating the North Atlantic line, and offers its travelers lines to Central America, and even, for a time, the Pacific coast. This poster was produced to promote tourism to Central America, particularly to Venezuela and the Antilles. A woman wears a madras scarf, a colorful fabric often worn by the Creole populations of Louisiana, the Lesser Antilles and Guyana. Albert Brenet is a French painter, poster artist and illustrator. In 1936, he was appointed painter of the Navy and air painter, then painter of the Armies in 1959.
