Description: ORIGINAL MORGAN DENNIS (1892-1960) 'I HEAR YOU CALLING ME' ORIGINAL 'THE BOSTON POST SUNDAY MAGAZINE' PEN & INK COVER ILLUSTRATION AND PAINTED COPY This is just a great original piece. I have had quite a few Morgan Dennis etchings in the past and one other original painting but this comes from a collection I recently bought of original work that Dennis did for the cover of Sunday Boston Post Magazines. For those not familiar with the artist, I have included his biography below. This is a wonderful scene of a puppy dog looking out the window as the Rags and Bones truck goes by. The larger piece is the original pen and ink illustration drawn by Dennis. Image measures 14 1/2 x 12 inches. Signed lower left corner. The drawing is in excellent condition. Just some very minor spotting within the image. An excellent work. Archival matted and framed with the frame measuring 20 1/2 x 17 1/2 inches. The original drawing also comes with what would have been the photolithograph copy that then Dennis would have painted to show the colors for use in printing on the cover of the magazine. The image has been shrunk down to 14 1/4 x 9 1/2 inches. Wonderful rich watercolor to the image really is great. Color version is archival matted and framed in matching colors. Frame measures 19 3/4 x 15 1/4 inches. This auction is for both pieces. I debated separating them but really the belong displayed together. A great display they would make together. I am offering another pair like this for a different cover by Dennis as well. I also have another pen & ink by the artist available. Add only $6 more for S&H&I for each additional Dennis auction you purchase. For those not familiar with the artist his biography from askart reads: "Morgan Dennis was an etcher, illustrator, writer and lecturer who was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1892. For many years he lived in Key West, Florida. He attended the New School of Design in Boston, in Provincetown, RI, he studied etching and in England he studied painting.Mr. Dennis worked for ten years for Boston newspapers until drawing dogs became his main interest. His dog illustrations appeared in many well known magazines and books. He was particularly well known for his depictions of Scotties. Dennis did the original illustrations for the Black and White Scotch ads. They were of Scotty dogs, of course. Morgan Dennis died in 1960. " CHECK THE PICTURES ON THIS GREAT PIECE.
