Original Very Early Japanese Order of the Golden Kite 4th Class Meiji Era

Description: This auction is for a Original Very Early Japanese Order of the Golden Kite 4th Class Meiji Era Very nice original item in very nice condition. This is Meiji period (1890-1912), but likely from 1890s and maybe the Boxer Rebellion period. Overall extremely nice with some slight enamel damage to a couple petals. The hanger is missing, cleanly broken from the top petal. Made in gilt silver - much of the gold wash on the front is gone and the silver has toned, while the back still shows the gold wash more readily. This version is in Guilloché enamel in red and violet. The badge also has a vault to it with only two rivets on reverse. Measures 43mm in width. This appears to be a very early design and is extremely unusual. In my research I have yet to find one to match it. Possibly a private purchase jeweler item, but either way appears very unique. The Order of the Golden Kite (金鵄勲章 Kinshi Kunshō) was an order of the Empire of Japan established on 12 February 1890 by Emperor Meiji “in commemoration of Jimmu Tennō, the Romulus of Japan”.The Order of the Golden Kite was an exclusively military award, conferred for bravery, leadership or command in battle.
