Description: Original U.S. Civil War Presentation M1850 Foot Officers Sword and Scabbard. This sword was presented to a Lt. in the 1st Conn. Heavy Artillery and dated 1862. From the little research I did the 1st Conn. Heavy Artillery saw much service during the Civil War and was even at Gettysburg in 1863. The sword is an import with a blade being 32 inches in length. It is engraved with a U.S. and patriotic motifs and has never been sharpened nor has any other defects, its leather washer remains intact.. The handle remains tight to the blade and has all of its original rayskin and wire intact. The metal anodized scabbard remains undented and all of its metal fittings remain intact and tight to the scabbard body. Its scabbard seam remains visible along the length the scabbard body.This is a really nice Presentation M1850 Foot Officers Sword and would make a great research project.
