Description: This is an original late 19th Century Ching Period Straits Chinese Hairpin in excellent condition. This double tipped hairpin is made of Gilt Silver and has finely detailed chased floral motifs. The hairpin was meant to slide through the center of a woman's hair bun to expose both carved ends This particular hairpin was purchased by my father in the early 1980's in Malaysia during the period he owned an antique shop on the island of Penang. He only purchased from a few reputable reputable Dealers who sourced their inventory from the local Chinese / Peranakan communities who lived on the island. This type of hairpin is a well documented antique collecting category - please refer to reference books that outline the richness of this type of Chinese silver artisanship.
