Description: This auction is for a Original Republic of Estonia 1920s Patriotic Lapel Pin Great early Estonian patriotic pin made in layered paper with a straight pin fastener. Measures 25mm tall by 20mm wide. Decorated in the tri-color of the Estonian flag (blue-black-white). Early Estonian Republic piece dating from 1918 through 1930. Rare item to find. On February 23, 1918, a manifesto was read in Pärnu declaring Estonia's independence. The next day, the manifesto was published in Tallinn, and Estonia became the independent democratic Republic of Estonia. This day is celebrated as Estonia's Independence Day. Estonia fought in the Estonian War of Independence against the Soviet Union and Germany. The Estonian army, led by Johan Laidoner, drove the Bolsheviks out of Estonia in January 1919.
