Description: Offering a superb high-quality 1840's gown in a beautiful pale rose-dusty mauve silk taffeta, the type which we've often read in historic literature as "the rustling of Victorian ladies skirts." The taffeta of this gown is stong and in excellent condition; beautifully constructed and sewn. This gown is from the late Romantic Period. My photos have been somewhat "washed out" in depicting the actual colors as my phone has recently become in need of replacing. The pics taken at a distance more accurately convey the actual shades of my antique clothing than the close-ups do. I've listed measurements in the specifics section and these are some additional ones: the dropped sleeves are 20" long and begin underneath the pelerine-style over-bodice and have a cap sleeve. The fan-front bodice comes to a rounded point in front. There is lovely mauve braiding decorating the tailored lines of the gown. Boning is present. The inside bodice is lined in a fine cream cotton, and has brown polished cotton in a swath of 12" high at the inside hem, and is also sewn to the underneath of the attached pelerine-style over-bodice. This is to protect the silk fabric as well as to add some stiffness to the bodice for form. The skirt is cartridge-pleated and the back of the dress closes with the original hooks and eyes. There is no weakness to the fabric or the lining, & no discoloration at the underarms. At the bodice center there is a bit of wear where I presume the owner had fastened a brooch or pin to close a lace shawl. There is a very small area of faint discoloration at the very bottom hem that I could not capture with a photo as it is very insignificant but I want to mention it for accuracy. The gown is in excellent condition and I have had it for at least 20 years; it was very-well preserved long before I bought it, with much less than typical wear for a gown of its great age. Please consider my photos as part of the description and let me know if you have any questions at all or would like more photos. I am always happy to help! The cape that is shown over the gown is also for sale at this time, offered in another auction. Thank you for taking the time to visit my listing and I hope you will consider adding me to your favorite sellers list.
