An inset locates Pompeii and Vesuvius in relation to Naples, Poggio, Palma, Lake Avernus, and other features. A second inset depicts the Domus Pansæ, and a profile provides a diagrammatic comparison showing profiles and height of key buildings and structures. A panoramic view of the city, drawn by W.B. Clarke and engraved by T.E. Nicholson stretches across the lower portion of the map. The map was published by George Cox for the Society of the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge, London. It is dated 1852 in the lower margin. The image area measures 30.4 x 39 cm [12¼" x 16"], and there are distance scales calibrated in English feet and French metres. below the title. Condition: This map is in very good condition, with faint toning in the upper corners, minor spotting in the margins, and no rips or tears. It is blank on the back, no printing on the reverse side.
