Description: Original Fielding Lucas engraved map of New York, drawn by Samuel Lewis, engraved by Henry Schenk Tanner, and printed more than 200 years ago. The map has wonderful detail, including numerous wagon roads and trails through the mountains and connecting various lakes. It delineates counties and labels cities, towns, and natural features, with topography drawn in relief. Among the named places are Albany, Lake Champlain, Long Island, Geneva, Owego, Crown Point, Mohawk River, Plattsburgh, Islip, Chocolate Creek, Ticonderoga, Staten Island, Lake Ontario, Cayuga, Cooperstown, and Montauk Point. The image area measures 20.8 x 27 cm [8¼" x 10½"], and longitude is measured from London and Philadelphia. The map was printed and published by Fielding Lucas, Jr., 138 Market Street, Baltimore in his A New and Elegant General Atlas, Containing Maps of Each of the United States, circa 1817. Condition: It is in very fine condition, bright and clean, with a tiny bit of ink writing in the upper right margin, outside of the image area, and no rips, tears, or creases. It is blank on the back, with no printing on the reverse side. Please see the scans and feel free to ask any questions. It is an original, authentic antique map, not a reproduction or modern reprint, and it is fully guaranteed to be genuine. Buy with confidence!
