Description: While China has outpoured tons of material in recent decades, this discovery of wulfenite from Northwestern China remains elusive. Interestingly, The Mineralogical Record describes the remote area of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region as having similar geological conditions and a dry climate as that of the Wulfenite provinces in Arizona and Mexico[1]. The wulfenites from here range in colors, shades of glowing reddish-orange to blood orange to burning fire red colors. Some wulfenite specimens discovered are in association with porcelaneous snowy white Calcite. The color contrast of the two colors creates a stunning visual piece with definition to the wulfenite crystals. The specimens from this Wulfenite locale show a variety of crystal habits, which would reflect the different pocket zones that have been mined[1]. Most specimens from here display a bladed habit with subtle transparency when you get light behind the crystal. The crystals are lustrous, and some will show faint zoning to the crystal faces. This exquisite find was one of few wulfenite locales that could MAYBE begin to give Mexican/Arizona Wulfenite a run for their money. A superb addition to any collection..
