It's mostly green but has hints of purple when it's younger, and some say it has a cartoon-like appearance. The standard variety produces an edible fruit, although I have yet to see any develop in South Texas. This cactus has very few if any glochids. This cactus is hardy. Although probably not as hardy as Texas Prickly Pear Cactus, it's still a low-maintenance plant.
