Exceptionally cold-hardy scallions. Sow early spring through early fall for harvest well into winter. Little or no bulbing, though overwintering may result in bolting in spring. Yellow Onion - Patterson The Patterson onion stands out as an exceptional option for long-term storage. Throughout our various trials, it has consistently proven to be one of the onions with the longest shelf life. The bulbs of this variety are firm and have a high potential for a good yield. These bulbs are medium to large in size, with a blocky shape and a skin that is a deep shade of yellow. The necks of the bulbs are thin, which aids in quick drying. White Onoin - Sierra Blanca Big, gentle white onions. This variety of onions is highly versatile and can be grown throughout North America from the beginning of spring. It adapts well to different climates and is capable of maturing successfully in any region. It is particularly suitable for fall planting in areas where short-day onions are typically cultivated. These onions yield consistent, sizable bulbs with a white outer skin and possess a mild taste. The rings of the onion are also notably thick. Red Onion - Cabernet Red onions can be harvested early with the Cabernet variety. These onions are medium-large and have a globe-shaped appearance with a deep red color. They are able to be harvested earlier than other long-day red onions, while still maintaining a good size. The internal color of these onions is also impressive. Additionally, they typically have mostly single centers and can be stored for 4-6 months. Walla Walla Sweet- The renowned Walla Walla, WA variety is a delightful, gentle yellow onion that is highly regarded in the region. Known for its juiciness and sweetness, it has become a favorite among locals. In the Northwest, where winter temperatures typically do not drop below -10°F (-23°C), the seeds are planted in late August. By the following summer, a bountiful harvest of exceptionally large, flat onions with an incredibly mild taste is ready for picking. For colder regions with uncertain winter survival, Walla Walla onions can also be planted in the spring using either seeds or young plants. Although they may not be as large or sweet as the wintered-over crop, they still offer a milder and juicier flavor compared to other varieties grown from spring planting. They are particularly enjoyable as "green top" onions. However, it's important to note that Walla Walla onions are not suitable for long-term storage. These versatile onions thrive in areas with a latitude ranging from 35 to 55 degrees. Their adaptability makes them an excellent choice for both experienced and novice gardeners alike. Gold Coin- The initial appearance of this onion is characterized by its flat shape and yellow color. As it matures, it transforms into a small to medium-sized cipollini onion with a diameter ranging from 1 1/2 to 3 inches and a depth of 3/4 to 1 inch. When cooked, this onion emits a pungent aroma but offers a delightful sweetness to the palate. It is highly recommended for both bunching and braiding purposes. However, it is important to note that this variety thrives best in latitudes ranging from 38 to 60 degrees, as the necks of the onions may become too thick when grown at lower latitudes. Furthermore, this onion is suitable for short-term storage, ensuring that it remains fresh and flavorful for a reasonable amount of time. Pruplette- Mini onions with an early purple-red skin are a delightful addition to any dish. These unique onions not only mature quickly, but they also have excellent storage capabilities. Known as Purplette, this variety boasts a glossy, deep burgundy color that transforms into a lovely pastel pink when cooked or pickled. You have the option to harvest them when they reach the size of a golf ball or enjoy them as young baby bunching onions with their distinct purple pearl ends. For optimal growth and flavor, it is recommended to cultivate these onions at latitudes above 40°. Whether you're a seasoned chef or a home cook, these early purple-red-skinned mini onions will add a burst of flavor and visual appeal to your culinary creations. Eclipse- White onions can be used for bunching or in their smaller pearl size. Eclipse is a type of onion that can be grown in areas with longer daylight hours, allowing for the production of mini or pearl onions. These onions have a mild flavor. The seeding rate can be adjusted to achieve the desired size of the onions, or they can be thinned out after the seedlings have become established. Eclipse onions thrive best in regions located at or above the 40° latitude. Red Long Of Florence- Elongated and slim onions boasting stunning shades of pink and purple. The bulbs display an impressive uniformity, preventing them from becoming round and maintaining their slender shape, setting them apart from the Red Long of Tropea variety. Chefs will appreciate their delicate flavor, while their striking beauty makes them a perfect choice for market displays. For easier harvesting, it is recommended to sow these onions in bunches of 4-5 bulbs. They can be harvested immature and peeled before being grouped together. Alternatively, once fully matured, they can be cured and stored temporarily. Bianca Di Maggio- You can promote these young white cipollini onions with their green tops or market them when they are mature and dried in braids. They have a mild flavor and can be stored for up to 3 months. These onions require long days to grow. If you live in an area with a moderate winter, you can sow them from August to October. They have an average diameter of 2-3 inches and a depth of 1 1/2 inches. These onions can be grown in a latitude range of approximately 35-55 degrees. Open Pollinated USA Grown
