Description: Here is an old, cabinet card photo of a pretty, young woman in a white shirt, with dark hair. There is a sticker on the cardboard below the oval photo that identifies the woman as Alta Weidman. On the back of the photo is written: Alta Weidman, below that is written LeRoy H. Ranck. The photographer was Amos, no place listed but I found a William Amos, photographer in Lancaster County in 1910, who died in 1919. I did some other research and found an Alta Weidman, born in 1888 in East Earl, Lancaster County, PA, the daughter of D. G. Weidman and his wife, Roxanna Spangler. Alta married Ira Hoober, sometime before 1910, because they are living with her parents in the 1910 census. After that in 1930, 1940 and 1950 she and Ira and children are living in Philadelphia where Ira is listed as a painter and in 1950 Alta is listed as a widow, living with her daughter and son in law. Alta died in New Holland in 1961, she is buried with her husband, who died in 1948 in West Laurel Hill Cemetery, Philadelphia. As for LeRoy H. Ranck, I found a LeRoy Harrison Ranck, born in Earl Twp., Lancaster County in 1889, he was the son of Ezra and Mary (Seldomridge) Hoober. He was married to Bertha Rutter. LeRoy died in 1977 in Honey Brook, Chester County, and is buried with his wife in Rancks United Methodist Church Cemetery in New Holland, Lancaster Co., PA. I don't know how he connects with the Weidman family and Alta or why his name is on the back of the photo. The photo is nice and clear, with just a few marks on it. The cardboard it is mounted on has some stains and discoloration. There is writing on the back and a name sticker on the front, below the photo. Great old photo for anyone researching the history of the Weidman family. Postage will be 5.00 to the U. S. IF OUTSIDE THE U. S., PLEASE USE THE POSTAL CALCULATOR TO DETERMINE THE COST OF POSTAGE.
