Description: This offering is for a pair of antique late 19th century painted tin toleware strainer dippers. The longer strainer measures 16.5" long and the shorter one measures 14" in length. Each strainer has a very early painted surface consisting of a red back ground with swagged designs in the bowls. Usually when we see these they are decorated and then never used. However, this set was used, then painted and then heavily used again. The paint has a great crazed surface and the bowls show appropriate signs of wear. My guess is they were decorated in the late 19th century, probably around 1870-1880.
