Description: ARTIST: Jørgen Glavind is a well-listed Danish artist who was born in Randers in the Eastern part of Jutland in 1861. During the first part of his life, he was a railway worker and later became a station master, but in 1916 he left the railway for good and became a superintendent at Grindsted hospital in western Jutland. It was, however, when he walked around in the harsh, flat landscapes of Jutland with his easel, that he really thrived. As a result of that, most of his paintings depict scenes of moor landscapes, small windblown houses etc. PAINTING: Oil on board. This small painting is a charming rendering of a small, thatched house seemingly in the middle of nowhere, surround by, what appears to be an endless inland plain and probably not too far from the Danish west coast. On the front of the frame, there’s a small plaquette with the artist’s name and on the back of the frame, there’s a personal note from the artist to a woman called Hilda Thomsen. It reads: “Til Fru Hilda Thomsen med hjerteligt tak for alt, hvad de har været for mig. Grindsted, julen 1951. Deres heng. Jørgen Glavind”. This means: ”To ms Hilda Thomsen with heartfelt thanks for what you have been to me. Grindsted, Christmas 1951. Yours affectionately, Jørgen Glavind”. Signed: Monogram: “JG” in the lower right corner. SIZE: With frame: 33,5 cm/13.2" * 31 cm/12.2". Without frame: 26 cm/10.2" * 23,5 cm/9.3". CONDITION: The painting is in great ready-to-hang condition - no holes, tears or missing paint. The frame has minor scratches and stains.
