Description: Ohio. (Old Maps, 19th Century Maps, North America, United States, Americana, Ohio, Columbus, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Toledo, Akron, Dayton). Issued Cincinnati, 1848 [or earlier]. Anonymous engraver/ unknown source, possibly Barber. [Mapmaker could be Burr; Finley; or Tanner- further investigation required]. Excellent and very uncommon mid-19th century antique state map. Engraved with outline hand color. Ohio embellished letters title at bottom right corner set against clouds, miles distance scale below. Minor light toning, but still clean and fresh looking. To our eyes and likely for most people, a nice looking example of this uncommon antique map. Nice age patina impossible to describe with words, just a nice looking rare old map. Original fold lines as issued, short inset tab tear lower left side closed. The blank margin top left served as an inset tab, sheet was pre-trimmed close to neat line below to facilitate the folding; hence as it survives today, untouched and just as issued. Sheet measures c. 14" x 12 3/4". Printed area measures c. 12 1/2" x 11". Smith, Mapping of Ohio, pp. 172-183.- Not citing this map, nor there being a carto-bibliography within the work as that was not its aim.
