Description: “FOUR OF A KIND”, c.1936-1937 ORIGINAL LIMITED EDITION LITHOGRAPH BY THE AMERICAN ARTIST AND PRINTMAKER NURA WOODSON ULREICH (1899-1950) This limited edition lithograph, of four young girls sitting on a bench holding hands, is stone signed by the artist in the image center left: NURA. Norah Woodson Ulreich, known professionally as “Nura”, is well known her paintings, lithographs and illustrated books. This scarce small edition lithograph was printed for the artist by the famous lithographer George C. Miller circa 1936-1937 at the lithography printshop base in New York. This image is an excellent example of Nura’s early graphic work. The edition size is unknown. The image size measures 10 x 11 7/8 inches, printed on RIVES wove paper. The full sheet with margins measures 11 3/8 x 14 7/8 inches. The lithograph comes unframed. PLEASE NOTE CONDITION: The lithograph is in excellent condition, a crisp clean impression, with no evidence of any damage to the image. Norah (Nura) Woodson Ulreich, painter, lithographer, muralist, textile artist, ceramist, sculptor, author and illustrator, was born in Kansas City, Missouri in 1899. She first studied at the Kansas City Art Institute before attending the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts and the Art Student's League in New York. She subsequently studied under John French Sloan and Frederic Rodrigo Gruger. She then lived and painted for several years in Paris where she exhibited widely and with success, including at the Salon d'Automne, and where she met and married her husband, the artist Buk Ulreich. After returning to the United States, Ulreich continued to exhibit with success, including at the Art Institute of Chicago. Her work was included three times in the Corcoran Gallery International Biennials (1928-39). She was a member of and exhibited with the Society of Independent Artists (1928, 1941), and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts (1929-1931). In 1939, the exhibition “Nura Ulreich: Paintings” was mounted at the Dallas Museum of Art. Her work is represented in the collections of the Fine Art Museums of San Francisco, the National Gallery of Art, the Smithsonian Museum of American Art, the San Diego Museum of Art, and the Walker Art Center. Nura illustrated and wrote children books: “The Buttermilk Tree” which was published by the author in 1934; “Nura's Garden of Betty and Booth” published by William Morrow in 1935; “The Silver Bridge” published by the author in 1937; “Nura's Children Go Visiting” published by The Studio publications, Inc. in 1943; “All Aboard, We Are Off” published by The Studio publications, Inc. in 1944; “The Mitty Children Fix Things” published by the Junior Literary Guild and American Studio Books in 1946; and “The Kitten Who Listened” published by Harper in 1950.
