Description: Novelty Treen Book With Secret / Trick Opening. Dispatched with Royal Mail 2nd Class Large Letter. Dating from the late Georgian period this novelty well made piece of treen crafted as a book. Made from well patinated oak with rich colour with a good tactile feel. By sliding a section of the spine it reveals a hidden secret compartment. Unusually the compartment has its original mirror ( mirror is distressed) as its base, i suspect the book may have been a patch box originally hence the mirror. The sliding compartment fits perfectly which is testament to the maker. Obviously an item approximately 200 years old will have signs of wear , the corners have chipped and on one side there is a closed up surface split due to the oak drying out,and a couple of chips to the faux spine, absolutely nothing not to be expected from genuine items of this type and age. Please study photographs carefully as they form part of the description. Rare and desirable item . Measurements are 5.5 inches high, 3.25 inches width, 1 inch deep.
