Description: Vintage Noritake "MYSTERY 175" Porcelain, Gold Trim. Post-War Occupied Japan. Dimensions: 8 1/4" Diameter x 1 1/2" High. After World War II and during the Korean War, Noritake mass produced a wide variety of "mystery" china patterns specifically to sell to U.S. servicemen at military PX stores. Many patterns didnt have names, thus the calling of the pattern "Mystery 175" came to be. Large, gold M encircled by a wreath. This M stood for their namesake, Morimura, and was used until World War II.Although consumers referred to the dinnerware as Noritake as early as the 1920s, the company didnt officially assume the name Noritake Co., Limited until 1981. The Noritake Gardenin Nagoya features the production of its ceramics. IMPORTANT: Due to the metallic trim, this Noritake fine porcelain china dinnerware isnot microwave safe, and not oven safe. Additionally, you may not want to run them through the dishwasher, as the gold trim and decorations can fade or react to high heat. Hand-washing recommended.
