Hardcover in navy blue cloth with gilt decoration of a grandfather clock on the front board and lettered in gilt on cover and spine. All edges gilt. 387 pp. with index. Illustrated with full page plates and smaller illustrations in the text. Anecdotal history of Newark, New Jersey from the earliest days of the sale of land by the Native Americans to the settlers and establishment of the provincial government through the late colonial period, the American Revolution, the War of 1812, the Civil war, the industrialization of the city, and (then) modern era.
